People from this town are called Iwho Ugbede (people of Ugbede), in recognition of the legend that a man and his wife travelled from a land which is located at Ughelli North Local Government of Nigeria called "Ugwerhu". Ugbede was the son of Ugwerhu, and decided to leave his homeland in search of new environment to settle with his wife. After a long work from his home town, He finally decided to settle in place called Otor Vwodo, which is now "Adanibo", the entrance to the town. While they were living in that land they had children and became prosperous.

The settlement is now a community with different sub-community under it. Orhuwhorun, which is now the name of this community, came from the phrase "Orho ru gwerhu" which is literally "place of ugwerhu". Orhuwhorun got its reputation when Delta Steel Company Ovwian-Aladja launch the housing complex there, and it has been a controversial issue in the community if the company should be named under Ovwian or Aladja where the company production plant is. Looking to everything that has to do with the company are all located in Orhuwhorun,"fledgling aberration of the constitution of a 'Steel Town Community by persons it referred to as protagonists". (Urhobo Times, 2012)

In the Urhobo region, there is a saying: "two Kings can not be in the same clan"; it was difficult for the Urhobo Kingdom to accept that the Monarch of Orhuwhorun is not subject to the leadership of the Oba of Benin, which has been a tradition. The highest chief in the community of any Urhobo has to pay a visit to the Oba, there He will present to him the sword of honor which symbolizes power. Kings from Orhuwhorun have followed this tradition since 1852, when the King of Orhuwhorun, Okaka, first visited the Oba of Benin, Akenzua I. Orhuwhorun has gotten sons which were then representing the Udu Kingdom the likes of 'Chief F. Vuowor Oputu the Otota of Udu Kingdom, which was known as the King of Udu Kingdom that was from 1927'(Urhobo Vanguard, 2013).

Every year, there is a carnival in honour of the King of Orhuwhorun, in which he presents to the Oracle "Utuwhen" some circumcised girls. Orhuwhorun is also known for a traditional style of dance which called "Udje".
