The current system of orders, decorations, and medals of the Republic of Korea has its foundation with the establishment of the country's highest award the Grand Order of Mugunghwa in 1949. Changes were made to the system in 1967 and again in 1973. The South Korean honours system consists of orders (Korean: 훈장 ), medals (포장 또는 기장), commendations (표창).
