OpenSpirit Corporation, an oilfield service subsidiary of TIBCO Software, provides software services and middleware for geophysical data integration. The company was originally headquartered in Stafford, Texas (a suburb of Houston), with offices in Woking (UK), Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Perth (Australia).
History
Development of the OpenSpirit Application Integration Framework began in 1997 as a project funded by the OpenSpirit Alliance, a consortium of oil companies and software vendors seeking to address inefficiencies and high costs related to the poor integration capabilities of exploration and production applications and their related datastores.
With research and development funded by consortium members, a multidisciplinary team of technologists delivered a prototype of an application integration framework in 1999. While consortium members and the exploration and production community as a whole supported the prototype, it became apparent that it would need to be offered by a commercial entity. OpenSpirit Corporation began operations in July 2000 as an independent software company focusing on providing integration software for upstream applications and data.
The original investors were Schlumberger, Shell, and Chevron. In 2006 Paradigm Ltd joined as an investor in the company.
On September 23, 2010, OpenSpirit was acquired by TIBCO Software, Inc.
