Oakes is a district of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated 2 miles (3 km) to the west of the town centre off the A640 New Hey Road towards the M62 motorway.

Theresa Sykes, aged 16, was attacked by Peter Sutcliffe at 8:00 pm on Bonfire Night, Wednesday, November 5 1980 in Oakes,Huddersfield. She had just bought cigarettes from a grocery shop and was walking on a path alongside a grassland and was almost home, when Sutcliffe emerged from the shadows, caught up with her, and struck her on the head from behind. She turned as she fell and tried to grab the weapon, and later was to tell police it was metal. She also was able to tell police that the man who attacked her had black hair, a beard, and a moustache. The second blow aimed by Sutcliffe struck her high on the forehead leaving a half-moon-shaped scar.

It is situated between Marsh, Lindley and Salendine Nook.
