O'Donel Levy was a jazz and funk guitarist, born 20 September 1945 in Baltimore USA, died 14 March 2016.

Levy was best known for work under the Groove Merchant label produced by Sonny Lester. Levy recorded 10 albums, the last in 2004. The compilation album 'Hands Of Fire', released in 2004 shows off his trade mark style . He played blues, funk and jazz sound that remains largely unknown outside

Levy performed at a number of festivals. He has been the main attraction at the Montreux Festival. He appeared with Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff. He wrote music for Luther Vandross, Sarah Vaughn, and his friend, Herbie Mann.
