Nur eine Frau is an East German film. It was released in 1958. It is based on the life of the Leipzig campaigner for women's rights, Louise Otto-Peters, who is portrayed in the film by Karla Runkehl. The novel of the same name published by Hedda Zinner in 1954 served as a model .

Plot

Louise Otto grew up in Meißen as the well-guarded daughter of the court director Fürchtegott Wilhelm Otto and his wife Charlotte. She showed an interest in political and social problems at an early age and thus encountered resistance from her surroundings. 

She refuses the wedding offer of the rich baron Rödern and begins a relationship with the young committed teacher August Peters. Luise begins to write socially critical novels and founds the first women's magazine in Germany. 

In the struggles of the german revolution she catches up with August again wounded and wanted by the police. She cannot prevent him from being arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison. After his stay in prison, Louise and August get married.
