Nunga is a term of self-reference for many of the Aboriginal peoples of southern South Australia.

Other names used by Aboriginal Australian people

There are a number of names from Aboriginal languages commonly used to identify groups based on geography:

  • Koori (or Koorie) in New South Wales and Victoria
  • Murri in southern Queensland
  • Nyoongar in southern Western Australia
  • Yamatji in Coastal & MidWest of Western Australia
  • Wangai in central Western Australia
  • Anangu in northern South Australia, and neighbouring parts of Western Australia and Northern Territory
  • Palawah (or Pallawah) in Tasmania.
  • Yolngu in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory
