Nundah Spitfires Soccer Club were a soccer club based in Nundah, in Brisbane's northern suburbs. The club was formed in 2000 by Mario Murtagh but the club folded in 2003, regrouping as Spitfires MKII run by Simon Hewitt. Nundah Spitfires played their home games at Boyd Park, Nundah.
History
In 2000, Irishman Mario Murtagh started the Nundah Spitfires Amateur Soccer Club. The club was considered to be a multicultural club with the many different nationalities signed to play for the club in their inaugural season in the Brisbane Amateur League Second Division. During the 2000 season there were Australian, Irish, Scottish, Iraqi, Indian, English, French, Italian, Greek and German players on the clubs playing list.
Their first season in the Brisbane Second Division was successful with the club finishing Third in their division and were unlucky not to make the final, however gained promotion to the First Division in 2001.
Nundah Spitfires successful inaugural season led to the club's growth for the 2001 season, two successful Women's teams were added to the club's list, Coached by Jeff Randle during their inaugural season.
Led by their player-coach, Englishman Mark Owen who had enjoyed previous stints with Hayes FC in England, the club lead the ladder throughout a very successful season but suffered defeat in the seasons grand final to Sparta FC.
The 2001 team was filled with brilliant players, the most popular was former New Caledonian International Striker, Jean Baptiste Dialla, closely followed by the influential Randle brothers, Jeff and Bobby.
Spitfires MKII started playing their home games at the Grange Thistle Football Club before moving to Albert Bishop Park, home of their former fierce rivals, Virginia United, which the Spitfires are now tied with as Virginia United Spitfires.
