Now That's What I Call Music! 23 or Now 23 was released in 1992 on vinyl, audio cassette and Compact Disc. The album is the 23rd edition of the Now! series in the United Kingdom.

Three songs from this album appeared on previous Now! CDs: Simple Minds' "Alive and Kicking" previously appeared on Now 6, Heaven 17's "Temptation" previously appeared on Now 1 and Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé's "Barcelona" which appeared on this album due to the song being used as an unofficial anthem for the 1992 Summer Olympics, previously appeared on Now 10. The version of "Shake Your Head" used is longer than the original single version, lasting 4:00 minutes as opposed to 3:42. It has an extra verse and verses run in order as per the extended version rather than the original 7".

Now 23 features four songs which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart: "Sleeping Satellite", "Would I Lie To You?", "Ebeneezer Goode" and "Dancing Queen" which reached No.1 back in 1976.
