Dr. Norman G. Gaylord (1923-2007) was an American industrial chemist notable for a major improvement to contact lenses - he developed a new rigid material, siloxane-methacrylate whose permeable qualities made it applicable to the production of contact lenses. For his contribution to the production of lenses Gaylord received in 1985 Founder's Award from the American Academy of Optometry.
