Noriko Osumi (大隅典子, Osumi Noriko) is a Japanese neuroscientist. She is a Professor of Developmental Neuroscience and the Director of the Core Center for Neuroscience at Tohoku University. She is also President of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan.

Academic and Professional Career

Noriko Osumi graduated from the School of Dentistry at Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1985, and from the Graduate School at that institution in 1989. After working as a Research Associate in the Department of Craniofacial Morphogenesis & Anomalies there from 1989 to 1996, she became Associate Professor at the National Institute of Neuroscience, National Center of Neurology & Psychiatry, before taking up her current professorship in Developmental Neuroscience at Tohoku University in 1998. In 2008 she was made a Distinguished Professor, and in 2011 became Director of the Core Center for Neuroscience.

Noriko Osumi was also a Visiting Professor at Harvard University during 2010-2011. She is President of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan and a Member of the Science Council of Japan. She is on the editorial board of Genes to Cells and Journal of Anatomy, and is a member of several committees.
