Nord-Rana is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The administrative centre was the village of Ytteren, just north of Mo i Rana. The former municipality makes up about 90% of the present-day municipality of Rana.

History

The municipality of Nord-Rana was established on 1 January 1923 when the old municipality of Mo was split into the town of Mo i Rana and the rest of the old municipality became Nord-Rana. The new municipality had an initial population of 1,305. On 1 January 1964, Nord-Rana was merged with the town of Mo i Rana and parts of the municipalities of Sør-Rana and Nesna to create the large, new municipality of Rana. Prior to the merger, the population of Nord-Rana was 11,636.
