In 2008, an archaeological site was discovered in Nor Geghi, which according to the journal Nature, "fills a significant gap in the fossil record of the Caucasus region, which prehistoric African populations might have crossed en route to Eurasia."

The village used to be known as Chatkran and Bazmavan during the Soviet period.
