Sir Nicholas Parker (1547–1620) was an English MP and High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex.

Family

Nicholas Parker was born in 1547 at Ratton in the parish of Willingdon, Sussex. He was the first son of Thomas Parker and Eleanor Waller. He married

  • (firstly) Jane, daughter of Sir William Courtney;
  • (secondly) Elizabeth, daughter of John Baker;
  • (thirdly) Katherine Temple, daughter of John Temple of Stowe.
  • By his third wife, he had five sons and two daughters, including the Civil War pamphleteer, Henry Parker.

    Public offices and honours

    Parker was twice High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex, in 1585 and 1592. He was knighted in 1591. He was chosen as MP for Sussex in 1597.

    Monument

    Following his death, a monument was erected in the Willingdon parish church, showing an effigy of him and his three wives. It is one of a group of monuments to the Parker family spanning nearly 150 years.
