Nexus is a not-for-profit contemporary arts organisation based in Adelaide, South Australia. Nexus is a multidisciplinary multicultural organisation, incorporating Nexus Cabaret Space and Nexus Gallery. Through diverse programming, which includes visual and performing arts components, public discussion forums and residencies with artists and writers, Nexus nurtures contemporary creative processes and cultural development. Nexus works principally but not exclusively, on behalf of artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Nexus was established in 1984 and incorporated in 1985 to:

  • present a unique and vibrant program of exhibitions, world music and dance concerts, artist and writing residencies, seminars, forums and interactive workshops;
  • produce and showcase multicultural arts for audiences;
  • connect diverse communities and bring them into the mainstream.
  • Nexus aims to create real connections between people by addressing issues of current concern such as the isolation of established migrants, promoting interfaith dialogue, newly emerging communities of migrants including those from Africa and the Middle East and tackling other multicultural issues.

    Nexus relies on funding from the State Government through Arts SA and the Federal Government through the Australia Council for the Arts. Nexus also generates income through hiring both the Gallery and Cabaret Spaces to artist and the wider community to present their own visual and performing arts events.
