Introduction to newcastle school for boys 6th form hosted by our headmaster mr d tickner
Newcastle School for Boys, or NSB, is an independent school for boys aged 3–18 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. The school was formed in 2005 with the merger of two preparatory schools, Ascham House School and Newlands School.
The school has a roll of approximately 400 students and 75 staff and is located on three sites in the Gosforth area of the city. The junior school is located in two buildings about 100 yards apart on West Avenue and caters for boys in Nursery and Years 1 to 6. The senior school is located on The Grove and is half-a-mile east of the junior school. Students transfer to the senior school when they enter Year 7.
The school has undergone significant development since its formation in 2005 including the appointment of Mr Chris Hutchinson as Headmaster from Wellington College in 2007 and the opening of a major new extension to the senior school site in 2008. The Sixth Form accepted its first students in September 2009 and a further extension to the senior school site was built to accommodate these students. In April 2012 Mr David Tickner was appointed as Headmaster. The School was last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in October 2013. The overall judgement of the report states that 'pupils are very well educated in accordance with the School's aims that seek individual academic progress and achievement for all boys and 'the pupils personal development throughout the School is excellent and is supported by strong pastoral care.' There is some cooperation with Westfield School particularly at sixth form level with some joint teaching of A levels.
