Raising awareness with school gardens the new school rome microgarden
The New School Rome was founded in 1972 and is an independent British international school, run by parents and teachers.
For 40 years, the school has served the needs of the international community in Rome by offering an English education from age 3 to age 18. The New School follows the English National Curriculum and is a recognised examination centre for 2 major English examination boards, Edexcel (London) and Cambridge International Examinations. It is also a long-standing member of Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education. It is a non-profit making association.
Teachers, students and parents work together in partnership through representation on the two decision making bodies, the Academic Council and the Executive Council. The elected Chairperson of the Academic Council is also the Headteacher. The Chairperson of the Executive Council, which is responsible for the legal and financial aspects of the school, is an elected parent member.
Situated on the residential north side of the city, all classrooms have wi-fi internet access and interactive whiteboards. There are 2 libraries, 3 purpose-built science laboratories (opened in 2013), football and volleyball pitches, a Drama studio and an Art studio.
At the Senior School level, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. Students work in small tutorial style groups (maximum class size 16) and are encouraged to develop a disciplined approach to work and keen research skills in preparation for future study at university. Senior students are called upon to play a major role in the school community and send elected representatives to the Academic Council. Each year a student from Year 12 will participate in the Interviewing Committee which is responsible for the recruitment of new members of staff and a Year 13 student will give the Student Report at the school's Annual General Meeting.
