Neufeld is a surname. It refers to: "new field" - first registered among religious Mennonite Christians in the Danzig region, in late 17th century. The "new-fielders" (Neufeld, Neufeldt, etc.) were a people skilled in building drainage and dam systems, to reclaim land from marshes and the low lands, by the seas of northern Europe - e.g. Holland, Vistula Delta, etc. It is said that some of them may have had Dutch names, similar in origin, from the Frisian province/region.
