The Nepali topi or Dhaka topi is a type of hat worn in Nepal and is worn as a symbol of national pride. The Nepali topi is also worn by government officials as a part of the national dress. It became popular during the reign of King Mahendra, who ruled between 1955 and 1972.

Nepali Topi Day

Nepali Topi Day is celebrated on January 1 of every year with the objective to promote Nepalese culture. Wearing the topi is considered a matter of national pride, as it is a recognized symbol of Nepalese culture. The topi symbolically represents a unifying factor to bind the country's different ethnic groups – Nepal has over 100 different ethnicities.
