Until the mid-1970s, the city of Latur mainly consisted of Central and Inner Latur City. Since then, Latur has seen rapid and continued growth in terms of population and area, and many erstwhile villages surrounding the city, such as Khadgaon, Kava, Kanheri, Gangapur, Vaswadi, Harangul, Malwati, Gangapur and Wasangaon, have become suburbs.

The city of Latur can be divided into the following zones:

  1. Central Latur: consisting of roughly seventeen peths, or neighborhoods. These were established and developed during the Maratha and Nizam rule, and are referred to as the old city.
  2. Inner Latur: consisting of Ganj Golai, Sawewadi, Signal Camp and Shivajinagar in the west, Sale Galli, Labour Colony, Nanded Road, Babhalgaon Road, and Malwati in the east, and Gul Market, Majagae Nagar, Moti Nagar, Kava Road and Kanheri Road in the South. On the north, the inner city is bounded by the Shahu Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, Vivekanand Chowk, Ekmat Chowk, Renapur Naka and Rajiv Gandhi Chowk.
  3. Outer Latur: including the newer developed areas of Renuka Nagar and Sai Road in the northwest, Raje Shivaji Nagar and Hudco Colony in the west, LIC Colony, Kava Road and Kanheri Road in the southwest, Mhada Colony and Dadaji alias Dagadojirao Deshmukh Chowk in the southeast, New Nanded Naka and Maharana Pratap Nagar in the east, and New Renapur Naka and Vishwanathpuram in the north.
  4. Suburbs: including the newer developed areas of Arvi, Nandgaon, Sai, Vaswadi and Harangul in the northwest, Wasangaon and Gangapur in the west, Kava, Kanheri and Khopegaon in the southwest, Babhalgaon in the southeast, Kolpa in the east, and Malwati and Vishwanathpuram in the north.
