The Nehme family is a prominent Levantine Christian family. Because of the challenges of transliteration, many variations on the name Nehme exist, (also spelled Nehmé, Nehma, Nehmeh, Nemaa Arabic: نعمة‎‎ or Arabic: نعمه‎‎ ) is a widely recognized as a prominent Arabic family name from the Levantine states of Israel, Lebanon, Palestine & Syria. The name derives from the Arabic word of “blessing” or “grace”.

Lehfed is believed to be the ancestral home of the Nehme family, a small village in the Jbeil district of modern day Lebanon, near Byblos.

As Mount Lebanon was an area of continuous civil unrest at the end of the 19th Century, many Nehme families had to flee to nearby towns including the city of Deir el Qamar, while others ventured further to reach the city of Haifa and beyond.

The Nehme family is believed to stem from the Daou family tree with one of its sons Nehme Daou as the father of all Nehme families within the Levant. In turn, the Ghassanids are believed to be the ancestors of the Daou family, a group of South Arabian Christian tribes who emigrated in the 3rd century from Yemen and whose descendants were thought to be scattered in the Levant and beyond.

It must be known that there are other "Nehme" families in the Middle East, which may not be related by lineage or kinship or religion (as some are Muslim) including Iraq, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE and usually have the "Al-" prefix such as Al-Neama and Al-Nemaa.
