National Intelligence Authority (United States)

The National Intelligence Authority was a committee made up of the Secretary of State, Secretary of War, Secretary of Navy and President Harry Truman’s chief military advisor, William Leahy. The purpose of the National Intelligence Authority was to monitor the Central Intelligence Group (CIG), an intelligence group authorized by the White House in 1946 to replace the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) that was terminated by President Truman in 1945. The Central Intelligence Group ended with the passing of the National Security Act of 1947 and was absorbed by the newly initiated Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
