The National Drama Festival Award for Best Play is one of the prestigious award presented annually since the awards debuted in 1973, by the Ministry of Arts & Culture of the Republic of Mauritius.

'Best Play' is considered the premier award of the National Drama Festival, as it represents all the directing, acting, music composing, writing, editing, and other efforts put forth into a drama production and receives much media attention. A prize giving ceremony is held where Chief Guests are invited to assist the ceremony and to hand over awards.

The promotion of drama is another priority of the Ministry. Each year, the Ministry has regularly organised National Drama competitions in 10 languages. In 2010, 136 clubs and 1500 artists participated. The artists are also trained in acting and play production.
