It is located about 25 km from Bobbili and about 60 km from Vizianagaram city.

Sri Nilakanteswara Temple was constructed by Kalingas in the 10th century. There are 4 temples in the complex on the west bank of River Suvarnamukhi. They are located about 3 mi (4.8 km) from Balijipeta and were probably built during the Eastern Ganga dynasty, between the seventh and tenth centuries. They are constructed in the early medieval architectural tradition. Unlike the other temples of the same period, the Narayanapuram temple is completely intact and consists of nine sets of images carved on the most northern temple.
