Background

Bell Gully Mooting is the longest-running New Zealand Law Students' Association moot court competition, which is sponsored by Bell Gully.

The regional rounds of the mooting competition are slightly different at each university, with various levels of faculty involvement depending on the law school. Most law schools have a long-standing trophy for the winners of their individual competition, such as the Auckland University Stout Shield (named after Sir Robert Stout) and Victoria University of Wellington's Sir Richard Wild Cup.

The national finals of the mooting competition are held at the NZLSA national conference each year. The winning University from the national finals represents New Zealand at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
