NRK Alltid nyheter is a Norwegian all-news radio channel operated by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). It started broadcasting on 14 April 1997 as world's first all-digital news channel (DAB/Eureka 147). It was launched as part of an effort to attract listeners to DAB digital radio. Initially the station used the same production model as ABC NewsRadio in Sydney, Australia. In 2002 the station moved to NRK's headquarters in Marienlyst, Oslo, where other NRK news output is produced.
Initially the station broadcast news every fifteen minutes, in a less formal manner than traditional radio. It had its own staff of 16 journalists who created stories based on material provided by NRK's main news division, the BBC World Service and Sveriges radio.
Although the station was initially created to attract listeners to DAB, it was later decided that DAB coverage was too low, and NRK Alltid nyheter began parallel broadcasts on FM in 17 of the largest Norwegian cities and towns.
In 2002 the station became part of NRK's news division. Alongside its own programmes, the station today rebroadcasts full programmes from other NRK stations and the audio portion of NRK's tv news programme Dagsrevyen. The station reports a 2% audience share, which means it has about 80,000 to 90,000 listeners. From 22:00 to 06:30 on weekdays, the station rebroadcasts the BBC World Service (in English). It also rebroadcasts an edition of Dagens Eko (Ekot)- 15 minutes of news in Swedish from Sveriges Radio. More BBC World Service content is broadcast at weekends.
The station is also available via satellite and on the internet.
