On the journey from Europe to America, the widowed mother of young Jackie Blair (Jackie Coogan) dies. Jackie is supposed to be deported upon arrival, but after crusty Capt. Bill Hicks (Claude Gillingwater) introduces him to a large family of immigrants, he slips off the boat with them. Left alone when the family rejects him, Jackie finds Bill, who allows him to accompany him home. When Jackie learns Bill is broke and behind in rent, he tries to help, unaware his wealthy grandmother is nearby.

My Boy is a 1921 American drama and comedy silent film directed by Albert Austin and Victor Heerman. The film stars Jackie Coogan, Claude Gillingwater and Mathilde Brundage. The movie has been preserved and was released as part of a Warner home video 2 disc special edition in 2004, which also features The Kid starring Charlie Chaplin and Coogan.

An orphan escapes immigration officials at Ellis Island and goes to live with an old ship's master who can't find work and can't pay the rent.

Plot

Jackie Blairs parents have both died and this leaves him alone when he arrives at Ellis Island. Looking to gain entry, he joins a Jewish family and is counted in as one of their eight children. When the father starts counting off his brood, he fails to recognize Jackie as one of his own. It is then that Jackie follows old Captain Bill and elects him as a foster parent. When old Bill needs medicine that he cant afford, Jackie dances to an organ grinders tunes to collect money for the medicine. After attending a settlement house party, he is accused of stealing the rich Mrs. Blairs purse. Trailed to his home at old Bills, it is found that the boy only had some fruit for Bill, the bag is recovered and Mrs. Blair learns that Jackie is her nephew.
