Laetitia Toureaux (Laetitia Nourrissat Toureaux) was an Italian woman who was the victim of a much publicized murder in Paris at the station metro Porte Dorée on 16 May 1937.
She was the first murder victim in the Paris Métro. Police investigations found that the victim was leading a double life, and they also found that her entire family, originally from Italy, had relocated to France. They were part of large group of Italian immigrants coming to Paris in search of work during the period.
This crime was widely discussed at the time; the interwar period generated multiple speculations involving the secret services and the hood.
The investigation, led by Commissioner Badin, revealed that the young woman had a tumultuous life, working under a false name, frequently and discreetly visiting the Italian Embassy while taking the dressing room of a dance hall with a seedy reputation. The war came two years later and with it, the case was discontinued.
Adaptation
On 29 June 1978, one episode of the French TV series De mémoire d'homme was based on the murder of Laetitia Toureaux. The episode was named L'affaire Laetitia Toureaux ou Le crime parfait.
A book named "Murder in a Metro" was written about the crime.
