This article is a list of the U.S. states and the District of Columbia, with population, murders and gun murders, then calculated rates per 100,000. The population data is from the U.S. Census Bureau. Murder rates and gun murder rates were calculated based on the FBI crime reports and the 2010 population of each state.

The 2010 U.S. population total was 309.3 million. The total 2010 gun murders was 8,374. The 2010 USA overall gun murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants was 2.71.
