Munawwar Hasan (15 May 1964 – 10 December 2008) was an Indian politician for the Muzaffarnagar constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He was killed in a road accident near Palwal in Haryana. The accident occurred at about 1.15 am when Hasan was travelling from Mathura to Delhi in a Scorpio vehicle, which collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Banchari village on National Highway 2. Forty-four-year-old Hasan was brought dead to the Apollo Hospital at 3 am. The lawmaker, who was elected on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh in 2004, had defected to the Bahujan Samaj Party at the time of 22 July trust vote. He was expelled by the Samajwadi Party, which also filed a petition seeking his disqualification from the House. The petition is pending with the Lok Sabha Speaker.
