Prince Muhammad Daud Pashtunyar Khan is the seventh child of Mohammed Zahir Shah, the last king of Afghanistan.

He was born at the Arg-i-Shahi, in Kabul on 14 April 1949 and was educated in the Istiqlal School at Kabul.

On 2 February 1973, he married Princess Fatima Begum (Fatima Aref Zaher, daughter of General Muhammad Aref Khan, former Afghan Ambassador to the USSR by his wife Amina Begum), and they have two children:

  • Prince Duran Daud Khan (b. 1974) is a Consultant at GTZ Investments in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Princess Noal Khanum (b. 1978). She married at the Çırağan Palace, Istanbul, Turkey, on 30 August 2013, Muhammad Ali, Prince of the Sa'id. They have twins.
