Grendel is a mail/news reader by the Mozilla project written entirely in the Java programming language. Its goal is to be a true cross-platform application with a feature set that satisfies the power user.
History
Grendel was originally developed as a part of the Xena project at Netscape Communications, also dubbed "Javagator" by the media. This project was cancelled before completion after 3 years of development; but after the source for Grendel was released, other people started to work toward completing it. It appears that the project has seen no activity since 2005, as evidenced by the project's homepage.
