At Mount St. Mary's School, the modern infrastructure blends with the beautiful environs to provide a spectrum of learning activities that focus on integrated development. The school considers the formation of character the first essential of any sound educational system, and so great stress is laid on the inculcation of high ideals, gentlemanly behaviour and moral rectitude.

History

In 1963, the Brothers of St Patrick (Patrician Brothers) opened a new school call Mount St. Mary's in the capital of India on the invitation of the Army. It started with four brothers, six teachers and eighty - five students. The first principal was Bro. E.T Dunne and he was in charge of the school till January '69. The foundation stone was laid on the 6th of January 1963, by General Bhagwati Singh, who was at that time G.O.C of Delhi Area, New Delhi.

The school was first housed in eight tents (with seven classes)- there were only two students in the seventh standard. The building work started immediately, and the entire school moved into the building in July 1963. Two Floors were completed in December '63. This building was however not complete as the number of students were increasing and a Science Block was required. The staff and students put a joint effort in two very successful fetes, in 1966 and 1968, which brought in a considerable amount of money to help complete the building now standing very impressive, in a symphony of red and cream with expansive grounds and beautiful gardens.

Education System

The school follows the Central Board of Secondary Education system and has continuous tests and assignments.

The school attaches great importance to a varied programme activities outside the ordinary class routine. These are designed to develop important traits of character like honesty, self-confidence, cooperation and diligence, and to promote latent talents for leadership and responsibility. A proper use of library facilities, study circles and clubs, debates, elocution and quiz contests, dramatics, music - Western and Indian - and excursions are some of the cultural as well as educational activities.

The curriculum is designed to stimulate intellectual growth and talent, based on universal values of love, compassion and shared responsibility. Innovative methodologies encourage independent expression and progressive outlook.

Campus

The school is located at 75 Parade Road, Delhi Cant., New Delhi. The school today consists of two computer labs; chemistry, physics and biology labs, a medical center, a football field, swimming pool, synthetic tennis courts, basketball court, volleyball court, cricket ground, air-conditioned auditorium, an outdoor stage, a cafeteria and a residence for the Patrician Brothers. The campus also houses:

    The school discipline and management is maintained by the Student Council which consists of 36 members from classes XI and XII.The Student Council is elected jointly by the student community from senior school and the teachers. The Current Headboy is Devanjal Singh of Class XII. The school apart from the Student Council also has the following student bodies:

    Matrix Clan

    The Matrix Clan is the Computer and I.T. club of the Mount St. Mary's.The Matrix Clan consists of the students from class XI and XII who display exemplary qualities in the field of computer science and technology.The website of the Mount St. Mary's School is also run by the members of the Matrix Clan. The Matrix Clan also organises the Matrix-EcommBuzz symposium which is a computer and economics symposium.The symposium aims at creating awareness in the field of computers and economics and recognizes students who excel in the respective fields.

    EcomBuzz

    The EcomBuzz is the Economics Club of the Mount St. Mary's School.The Matrix Clan consists of the students from class XI and XII who display exemplary qualities in the field of Economics and Statistics. EcomBuzz organizes the Matrix-Ecomm symposium along with the Matrix Clan every year.

    Debating Society

    Debating Society is the public speaking club of the Mount St. Mary's School which recognizes the students who excel in public speaking and debate.
