Mopa is a town in the Nigerian state of Kogi. Mopa means ("imo papo" in Yoruba)which implies people with same ideology. It is the headquarters of the Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of the state. Mopa is 95% Christians dominated, over 4.5 traditional believers and the remaining fragment Muslims which are 99% outsiders living in Mopa. Local industries include Mopa Breweries, Boja Industries, SBD Farms and two marble quarries. Mopa has a state-run Government Technical College. And several other colleges that were established and managed by the missionaries in conjunction with Mopa community i.e. Ecwa secondary school mopa (ESSMO),Baptist Girl high school Mopa (BAGHSMO).......... Sunday Awoniyi, the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, was Aro of Mopa.A very high chief in Mopa kingdom Brigadier General Samuel Teidi also hails from Mopa. Brigadier General A.O Matthew (Rtd) hails from Mopa. Professor Seth Sunday Ajayi,(NNOM,MiBiol,FRHD,FIIA,FRZSS), a renowned scholar, a prolific researcher,a recipient of The 1994 United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) roll of honor, a Nigeria Merit Award winner for Science,who is also the First African Professor of Wildlife conservation is also a notable indigene of Mopa. Chief Duro Adeyele, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is another distinguished indigene. Chief Silas Bamidele Daniyan (CON) Former minister of National Planning,Pioneer MD NIDB,foremost Banker and An industrialist etc. hailed from this town.Chief S.B Daniyan died at 81. Mopa people speak their indigenous yagba language which is dialet of yoruba language.. they are people with strong cultural inclinations.. They are organised into clans; IYA ODE, ARIBO, OMOE AGE, ANUNMADE, ANNUMOTE,IYA OTO, IYA MOGBE,OMOLOKUN, ARUPE DENA, IYAA MELEDA, OMO-HOPA, IYA-LOJO etc.
