Mookychick is an independent daily online magazine and community with more than 100,000 readers a month and over 5,000 forum members. Mookychick content includes analysis of current sociopolitical events, social and cultural trends, alternative fashion, movies, books, music and arts and crafts from a feminist perspective. In contrast with feminist publications and communities such as Jezebel, or Bust, Mookychick explores gender issues from the perspective of the social outsider who feels they have been marginalised by their lifestyle choices.

History

Mookychick first went online in 2005. Founding editor Magda Knight wanted to create a public forum in which to air thoughts and theories on women, gender, and feminist issues, especially as they appear to alternative teenagers and young women.

In October 2011, Mookychick instigated an annual award for feminist writing, FemFlash Fiction. Judges included Lena Chen and Julie Zeilinger.

In April 2012, Mookychick contacted web filter providers Websense and Netfilter in response to having been categorised as occult and pornography respectively. Websense re-classifeed Mookychick as society and culture and Netsweeper re-classified the site as entertainment.
