Mon-Almonte Treaty

The Mon-Almonte Treaty was signed on 26 September 1859 by Juan Almonte, Mexican conservative and Alejandro Mon, representative of Queen Isabella II of Spain, in Mexico; in which relations between Mexico and Spain were restored.

This treaty was signed by Mexican conservatives, in their search for support in their struggle against liberal during the War of Reform. Among the main aspects of the treaty a loan contemplated to the conservative faction, which had to be paid to the triumph of these, but this debt ended up spending the Liberal government which was the winning end of the war, adding to the already large external debt with European nations.

With this treaty conservatives sought to draw the attention of European crowns to support their cause; but this treaty like its counterpart signed with the United States, never entered into force.
