Mitoferrin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC25A37 gene. It is an iron transporter that imports ferrous iron from the intermembrane space of the mitochondria to the mitochondrial matrix for the synthesis of heme groups and Fe-S clusters. It shows homology to mitoferrin-2 (SLC25A28) and is stabilized by ATP-Binding Cassette, Sub-Family B (MDR/TAP), Member 10 (Abcb10).
