The Ministry of Information is the ministry in charge of media and information in Egypt.

History and profile

The ministry was established in 1982 and it is the successor of the ministry of national guidance. Before its foundation the ministry of culture and information also dealt with the duties later held by it.

The ministry was abolished in February 2011 when the new cabinet was created under Prime Minister Essam Sharaf after his predecessor Ahmed Shafiq resigned. It was reestablished in July 2011 and Osama Heikal was appointed minister of information.

The headquarters of the ministry is in Cairo.
