In Ireland the Minister of State who had special responsibility for Overseas Development was officially styled Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs (with special responsibility for Overseas Development), and held a junior ministerial post in the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Ireland .

The Minister worked together with the senior Minister in this department and had special responsibility for all overseas aid affairs. The Minister of State did not hold cabinet rank. Until 2007 the post was titled Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs (with special responsibility for Overseas Development and Human Rights). The position was abolished in March 2011 and responsibilities taken over by the Minister of State for Trade and Development.
