The Minister for Finance is an appointment in the Cabinet of Singapore and heads the Ministry of Finance. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was Second Minister for Finance, took over the ministership on 2007-12-01 when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong relinquished the Finance post. The current Finance Minister is Heng Swee Keat. On 12 May 2016, Heng Swee Keat collapsed at 5.34pm during a Cabinet meeting, therefore Tharman was immediately appointed as the acting Finance Minister after Heng Swee Keat has collapsed.
