"Mining for Gold" is a traditional work song, written from the perspective of a hard rock miner who is beginning to suffer respiratory disease due to his work in mining.
Tamarack/Cowboy Junkies
Canadian songwriter James Gordon wrote and arranged his own adaptation of the song for his band Tamarack. Gordon's version has also been covered by the Cowboy Junkies, and appeared the soundtrack of the film Silver City. Another version is found on the collaboration album "Wach auf!" by Maja Ratkje and the contemporary music ensemble Poing.
