Mike Smith is an American producer, singer-songwriter, musician and businessman. Smith is the owner of SMH Records, who represents a number of American hip-hop artists, including KXNG CROOKED.

He is also the creator of the reality show, One Shot along with Sway, King Tech and KXNG CROOKED. The One Shot show was a reality show for budding musicians, with the winner receiving a record contract with Smith's SMH Records and also $100,000 prize money.

Career

During Smith's career, he has focused on production and also his own career as a singer-songwriter and musician. Additionally, Smith has become known for his management of music artists through his record label, SMH Records.

In 2014, it was announced on Sway in the Morning, that a new reality show would be starting later that year, focusing on rappers and MCs. The show, which was to be titled One Shot, was launched by Sway Calloway, Mike Smith and KXNG CROOKED.

The reality show was said to focus around the hip-hop genre, with the winner receiving a record deal with Smith's SMH Records and also $100,000 prize money. During the show, it was also announced that KXNG CROOKED would be releasing a mixtape that would be co-produced by Smith in late 2014.

The auditions for One Shot were countrywide, leading to Smith being interviewed on a number of occasions. Shortly after the show was announced, Smith secured a number of high profile guest judges to appear on the show. Smith confirmed that T.I., The Game, DJ Khaled, RZA, Twista and E-40 would all make appearances as judges.

In February 2015, the Chicago audition for One Shot drew thousands of hopeful contestants at the regional heat. Auditions took place across the United States, but Smith commented that the Chicago audition was one of the busiest.

Smith and co-producer Jonathan Hay, received media coverage following their approach to the 2015 music stream service competition between Tidal and Spotify. Smith produced and performed on a compilation album titled, When Music Worlds Collide and the decision was made to release the single on both. Smith and Hay contacted both Tidal and Spotify to discuss the challenge.

The competition drew attention with both streaming services and led Tidal to feature the album on their home page, while also helping in a general sense to promote the album.

Production

Smith worked as a producer throughout his career. After becoming co-founder of SMH Records with King Tech, Smith became more heavily involved in producing and songwriting. KXNG CROOKED's Sex, Money and Hip Hop mixtape was released in late 2014, which was co-produced by Smith.

In 2015, Inspectah Deck released the track These Broken Wings, which was co-produced by Smith. During the same month, Smith also received production credits for the Cyhi The Prynce single, DAT Tape.
