Mike McGuire is an American politician currently serving in the California State Senate. He is a Democrat representing the 2nd Senate District, which encompasses the North Coast region, from Marin County to Del Norte County.

Prior to being elected to the State Senate in 2014, he was a member of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.
Personal
McGuire comes from a family of grape and prune farmers who have had a history in that industry for nearly half a century. He was raised by his mother and grandmother. His wife, Erika McGuire, is a high school teacher and middle school assistant-principal.
Political
While at high school, he became president of his class. He made local history by being the youngest person ever elected to the local school board. He was only 19 years of age. Soon after that he was elected to the Healdsburg City Council. He spent six years with the council and was also mayor during a period of that time. He became a Sonoma County supervisor in 2010.In 2014 he became a member of the California State Senate.
In April 2015, he introduced bill SB 643. This bill that would legalize and regulate the medical marijuana industry. The regulation would cover cultivation to consumption. He said there weren't any rules or regulations for it in California and for two decades the state had allowed the cannabis industry to grow unchecked.
