Miguel Antonio de Merlo

Antonio de Merlo (1669-17?) was a Spanish Notary and Military in Buenos Aires.

Biography

Miguel was born in Murcia, Spain. In 1691 he had arrived at the port of Buenos Aires. He was married with Rosa Martinez de Figueroa, noble lady originally from Chile. They were parents of Miguel, caballero of the Order of Santiago.

In 1716 Merlo was appointed Notary of Compania Real del Asiento de Inglaterra, (South Sea Company), dedicated to slave trafficking.

Miguel Antonio Merlo, was Alferez, Captain of militia, then promoted to Sergeant major, also was Mayordomo of Buenos Aires Cabildo.

In 1709, the Sergeant major don Antonio de Merlo was appointed Governor of Porco, Potosi, Bolivia.
