It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the Kymenlaakso region. The municipality has a population of 2,060 (31 March 2016) and covers an area of 422.26 square kilometres (163.04 sq mi) of which 18.18 km2 (7.02 sq mi) is water. The population density is 4.88 inhabitants per square kilometre (12.6/sq mi).
