Michael McCullough (born July 27, 1969) is an American psychologist and author. He received a PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995 and an honorary doctorate from Université Catholique de Louvain in 2015. He is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, where he directs the Evolution and Human Behavior Laboratory. He studies the functions of human behavior and mental processes using the conceptual tools of evolutionary psychology and cognitive science. His research on revenge, gratitude, forgiveness, religion, and self-control has led him to be widely cited as an expert in both the scientific literature and media in general. He is the author of Beyond Revenge: The Evolution of the Forgiveness Instinct. He is currently writing a book on the evolution and cultural history of human generosity.
