Michael Gallagher has worked for the Fortescue Metals Group as an anthropologist.

In 1971 he graduated from University of Western Australia in economics.

In 1979-1980 he worked as a photographer for the Kimberley Land Council and the Yungngora Community at Noonkanbah.

In 1989, with Steven Hawke, son of former Primer Minister Bob Hawke, he wrote a book about the Amax Exploration and Charles Court Government interference with aboriginal land rights at Nookanbah

He completed his Honours degree at Murdoch University about the Canning Stock Route.

In 1996 he prepared a report concerning coastal aboriginals

He has also worked in the Western Desert Working Group

In 2011, he is seen working with FMG in activity with aboriginal claimants to native title at the Solomon Hub controversy
