Michael D. Smith is the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. He is also the John H. Finley, Jr. Professor of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In addition to his academic position, Smith was the Chief Scientist and co-founder of Liquid Machines, Inc., a provider of enterprise rights management software.

Education

Smith received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1993, his master of science degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1985, and his bachelor of science in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University in June 1983.
