Metropolitan Partnership, Ltd. (Developer) is a U.S. development firm with principal operations in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the Eastern U.S.... It was formed in 1984. Among its projects are the historic 1101 Pennsylvania Avenue/Evening Star Building, Tysons International Plaza and Fairfax Square, all designed by David Childs, FAIA of SOM Metropolitan is one of the contenders for the redevelopment of the Old Post Office in Washington, D.C.

History
In 1979, after completing graduate studies at Harvard University, founder Cary Euwer joined Cabot, Cabot & Forbes in Boston, Massachusetts, working on 60 State Street, the Ritz Carlton renovation and addition, and CC&F's Washington, D.C. office space and retail project at 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue. In 1983 he developed 250 West Pratt Street with SOM) in Baltimore, Maryland. Metropolitan Partnership, Ltd. was founded in 1984
Projects
Metropolitan Partnership's initial projects were 1101 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tysons International Plaza and Fairfax Square. With the latter project, the firm forged relationships with a number of luxury retailers, including Tiffany & Co., Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Fendi, which led to subsequent projects with those retailers (and Saks Fifth Avenue and Lacoste). Other projects include the retail repositioning and construction of ABC and Disney Studios - also with David Childs - in Times Square, and a joint venture with Koll Development Company to develop multiple office projects for communications and technology firms in Northern Virginia. Metropolitan recently completed the development of Westchester Commons, a 900,000 sf retail center in Richmond, Virginia
Old Post Office
In March 2011, the General Services Administration released a Request for Proposals for the redevelopment of the historic Old Post Office at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.. This was in response to legislation passed by Congress in 2008 calling for the building’s redevelopment, and the comprehensive NCPC-approved 2009 Monumental Core Framework Plan, which suggested “adaptive reuse [that] would honor the Richardsonian Romanesque structure and make better use of its outdoor public space, thereby enlivening the area beyond the workday and contributing to the vitality of the public realm”. As noted in Congressman John Mica’s 2010 report “Sitting on Our Assets: The Federal Government’s Misuse of Taxpayer-Owned Assets,” the GSA loses $6.5 million per year on the property, which is only partially occupied. In 2011, Metropolitan joined with Hilton Worldwide in the submission of a development proposal in response to the General Services Administration's Request for Proposals to redevelop the Old Post Office to include Hilton's iconic branding as a flagship Waldorf Astoria hotel joined by many of Metropolitan's retail relationships.
