The company, founded in 2006 by Andrew Wilkinson, has received praise on numerous design blogs, including Best Web Gallery.

Products

  • Ballpark is an online application to "send invoices, receive payments, bid on projects, and keep [your] team on the same page."
  • Flow is "an online collaboration platform that makes it easy for people to create, organize, discuss, and accomplish tasks with anyone, anytime, anywhere". On 25 September 2013, MetaLab unveiled a major new redesign of its collaboration app, Flow.
  • Pixel Union is the result of a collaboration between MetaLab and 45royale that "create[d] a series of beautiful premium Tumblr themes that are not only unique, but also incredibly affordable".
  • Mozilla

In March 2010, Andrew Wilkinson (MetaLab founder) wrote a blog post claiming that Mozilla "literally copied images straight off of our site" for use in the design of their FlightDeck editor. The story, which was picked up by TechCrunch, caused Mozilla to tell Wilkinson that "[the] design which used [MetaLab's] site’s design elements was a development build and according to [Mozilla] the design has been changed in newer builds." Wilkinson then requested a public apology.
